Ávila writes about how there are roughly 4 million people in Costa Rica and how they have a total surface area of roughly 50 930 km2, which equals 19th in size among all countries in Latin America. Out of these 4 million people, 70% are under the age of 25 and their country's life expectancy at birth is 78 years. Their literacy rate is 99%, which ranks them 1st place out of all Latin American countries. In addition, their population growth is approximately 1.89% per year, which ranks them 1st place out of all Latin American countries. Their net migration rate is positive and the number of migrants that leave Costa Rica equals to negative 8,000 a year. Costa Rica's Education System Abstract is a paper written by María Eugenia Madrigal Pinto, which explains the education system in Costa Rica. In this article Madrigal explains how there are 7 years of elementary school followed by 6 years of secondary school and finally 4 years of university after high school. In total "the average cost per pupil during the period between 2002 and 2008 was US$752" (Madrigal Pinto, 2011). The Costa Rica Legal System Abstract is written by John Robert Lewis, who explains how the legal system works in Costa Rica. He writes about the "Judicial Branch" and how it consists of different levels of courts, which are all mentioned below. The Costa Rican judicial system has three parts: the first being an eight-member Supreme Court, which oversees appeals along with constitutional issues, second is an eleven-member Superior Council of the Judicature (CCSJ) which supervises judges and tries them after they are found guilty of misconduct, and finally there is a Judicial Power which consists of roughly 460 judges (Lewis, 2008). Costa Rica Politics Abstract is written by Steven W. McLaughlin who explains the current Costa Rican government. He states that Costa Rica is governed by a Constitution which was adopted in 1949 and how it has the tendency to be the best working democracy of all Latin American countries (McLaughlin, 2013). He also mentions "The Government is comprised of three separate branches. The Executive Branch, formally called the Presidency of the Republic, runs all aspects of government administration in cooperation with elected Councils" (McLaughlin, 2013). Costa Rican Education Abstract is an article written by Sara J. Slicer which explains the education system in Costa Rica. In this article he explains how there are roughly five years of primary school. After primary school there are six years of secondary school which is split up into three cycles. In total there are 34% that complete secondary education in Costa Rica (Slicer, 2011). Slicer states that the cost per student is about $400 a year and in 1999, between 1995 and 1999, the cost per student increased by about 13%, but in terms of real purchasing power their economy grew by 31% in the same time period (Slicer, 2011).
